![]() On April 25th, the Woman's Club of Allwood observed Arbor Day at the Allwood Branch of the Clifton Public Library. As befitting a tribute as there could be, a memorial to Shirley Bird, long-time Clifton resident and Woman's Club of Allwood member since 1952, was held. It was a beautiful event, that would have tickled pink our beautiful English war bride, Shirley. Serving as WCA President for club year's 1971-1973, Shirley held numerous posts and chaired many committees over the years. Most recently, she was the Conservation & Garden Chair. Past President Dorothy Gondola stepped up to beautifully oversee the program. Mayor James Anzaldi spoke and Shirley’s family officially planted a glorious rhododendron - pink, of course! Afterwards a luncheon was hosted by The Gondola’s - more pink, but more importantly, fabulous. Thank you to all who joined us. Please enjoy some pictures of Shirley's presence at the WCA below. Most notably, a feature in the Herald News, circa 1969, in which Shirley, along with Past President Carol Mullane, presented Joseph Demarco, President of the Board of Trustees of the Allwood Branch of the Clifton Library with a special gift from the Woman's Club.
